How to take a professional-looking headshot at home with your iPhone
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerUse the back camera at eye level on a stand, sit facing a window with a plain wall behind you, frame from mid-chest up, try Portrait mode, and take lots of shots with a relaxed expression.
Setup
- Plain wall or uncluttered background, a metre or two behind you.
- Window in front of you, slightly to the side.
- Phone on a stand at eye level, back camera.
- Timer or Apple Watch remote.
Framing
Head and shoulders, eyes about a third of the way down the frame. Portrait mode can soften the background.
Expression
Think of something that makes you smile, breathe out, and take a burst. Relaxed beats posed.
Questions
Front or back camera?
