The best phone height and angle for photos of yourself
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerFor headshots and talking videos, put the lens at eye level. For full-body photos, about chest or waist height, with the phone upright and level. Avoid shooting from very low or very high unless you want the effect.
- Eye level: natural, conversational, best for talking.
- Slightly above: flattering for faces; don't overdo it.
- Chest to waist height: full-body photos; keeps legs in proportion.
- Low angle: makes legs look longer, but distorts if too close.
Keep the phone level; tilting makes walls and doorframes lean.
